A musical based on and suggested by the memoirs of Gypsy Rose Lee. It tells of an aggressive stage mother, Rose, and how she pushes her two daughters June and Louise into becoming vaudeville stars. June is the one who Rose feels is the most likely to become a star and Louise is the plainer sister who stands in her sister's shadow. Rose meets up with Herbie, a theatrical agent and he becomes the manager of "Baby Jane and her Newsboys". The group lives hand-to-mouth from town to town and as the girls get older, they start to wish...
