Although CST has provided Wayne County and the surrounding area with great entertainment for more than
25 years, we still haven’t reached the majority of people in our own town. Early in 2006, the board gave approval
for creation of the CST Outreach Program, the brainchild of a small core of dedicated CST members,
and appointed John Stutts as its first director. The purpose for the Outreach Program, in keeping with CST’s
mission and vision, was to broaden the name recognition and appeal of CST’s product to a wider segment of our
local area, and to extend our art form beyond conventional limits—that is, beyond the traditional stage.
The CST Outreach Program made a great showing in 2006. The public response to our first official Encore appearance
at the Days of Caring Kickoff on the Wayne County Courthouse steps was nothing short of amazing.
From that first appearance, we received three more invitations to perform. From those events, more invitations
came. Before the Christmas season was done, CST Outreach had performed more than a dozen special programs
for public and private parties alike, before crowds ranging from a few dozens to many hundreds. It was
truly an exciting and gratifying experience.
While no one doubted that the program would be a success, the rapid rise of its popularity caught even the Director
by surprise. And now, 2007 is already here! Outreach events are already scheduled, plans underway, and
rehearsals for some events will soon be underway. What does this mean to you? Read on.
As all of you know, no show, whether a 10 minute skit or a three hour musical, happens on its own. Your Director
of Outreach has worked diligently to create a “systematic attempt to provide services beyond conventional
limits” by making contacts, scheduling events, planning programs, and managing rehearsals. There are still contacts
to be made from earlier calls, and repeat events from 2006 are already scheduled in an effort to build our
program. This is where you come in!
Outreach is a “to reach beyond; exceed” type program. We must reach beyond our normal “four show a year”
format. We must reach beyond our normal energy levels and push that extra few feet to cross the line.
Our new building needs work, the Outreach Program needs that extra time commitment, our directors need
good actors, our actors need good directors, our Board of Directors needs your support. Consider making CST
a little higher on your priority list this year. Give a little more time, a little more effort toward the organization
you know and love, and make 2007 a bigger and better year for CST.
